We teach after school math club under contract with PACT PALS at Stevenson Elementary in Mountain View, CA. For several past semesters we have taught K-1 and 2-3 groups.
We now offer problem solving seminars in a format that can be projected in a classroom or school library, so that schools can purchase live seminars for their local math club at very affordable rates.
We teach weekend classes at the Chinese American Cooperation Council in Pleasanton, CA. We are in our second year teaching competitive math classes for grades: 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. There are currently 100 students enrolled in our classes at the CACC.
Although we will continue to support the math activity at the CACC, we are no longer accepting applications for weekend on-site classes.
We are approved vendors for Ocean Grove Charter School, operating in the Santa Cruz county and counties adjacent to Santa Cruz: Santa Clara, San Mateo, Monterey and San Benito, CA.
Ocean Grove students can enroll in any of our online classes with approval from their ES.
We are in our second year as Ocean Grove Vendors. At Goods of the Mind, we have 17 years of experience in homeschooling! We also offer independent advising for homeschooling parents at our usual tutoring rates.
We support Math Kangaroo in USA by donating a large number of hours each year to help over 300 students take the Math Kangaroo contest in the San Francisco Bay Area. This contest is one of our favorite contests, because it has very creative problem sets. Also, it has grade level appropriate content for the whole span of grades 1 to 12. By taking this contest annually, parents and students get an independent, objective assessment of their progress in problem solving. Since the contest is international and is taken on a specific day, it is quite difficult to cheat on it. New rules have been set up to prevent cheating so we can trust the scores to reflect each student's own work.
Many parents in the San Francisco Bay Area know us through Math Kangaroo and somehow people take for granted that we will organize and run this contest. However, all our work for Math Kangaroo is volunteer work and we would like parents to realize that their expectations are sometimes too high regarding our financial means and involvement. Parents should consider helping us by donating their own time (many have done so, thank you!), finding space where we can organize contests (at their church or club) and by respecting deadlines so as to reduce our overhead.
